ports ports ports ports. i think i have a thing. for ports. like ocean ports.
ports are one big efficiency monster. from the time your shipped goods you ordered of Amazon reach the pier to the dissemination of those goods to land locked United States of Amurrrica, every part of the process is analyzed to be done as cost- and space-efficient as possible.
between May – Sept, the Port of Long Beach offers free morning & sunset tours for the general public. the boat tour spans 1.5 hours and staff from the port explain the processes of the port along the way. this is a great local activity for parents, kids, and grandparents – the whole fambam!
apparently, getting tickets for the boat tour is a highly competitive ordeal. you try for a ticket the first monday of the prior month at 8 a.m. (i tried to get tickets on the first tuesday and was denied because they ran out) luckily, my old graduate school professor, also former Port official, invited me on the tour and gave us a private lecture on how they work (woot!!).
