spring-ing into action [april 2017]

it’s been a busy month in the sabstering world…

Bernice’s bridal shower happened! God is so good to have let our lives cross paths.  I’ve been so blessed by her in our small group.  Can’t wait to celebrate her and Craig!

speaking of small group, Chris, also in our sg, just joined our church! yay Chris!

’twas the month before Christmas…

christmas has come. and soooooooooooo many parties, people and fun. i’m a little bit pooped out but still enjoying it all:

Hot pot is literally the best winter food that ever existed on the planet earth.

My friend Carina is part of this amazing group that performs beautiful choral music free to the public.  They host an annual fundraiser gala with amazing food and music of which i had the pleasure on attending. If you’re in the Pasadena area, see if you’re free to attend one of their amazing concerts. Info here.

the best Mediterranean spread – think Chinese banquet style but with Mediterranean food

Church Christmas Party #1 – they had the deepest white elephant exchange ever. we were supposed to bring something meaningful to you and you would share what your gift meant when someone opened the gift. you learned a lot about people there. plus i guess it cut down on the random gifts nobody wanted….

Hot Pot Party #2. yah. live for the pot.

Work Christmas Partaaaay – due to budget cuts 😦 this could be our last Christmas party at work. #governmentlyfe Nonetheless, gonna enjoy what we have. There were burgers from the Habit (loveeee them! on par with In-N-Out) and then we had Longboard’s Ice Cream come out and do dipped desserts. OMG guys, this is the best dessert that existed on the planet earth – frozen banana, dipped on dark chocolate, and covered in peanuts. Oh cowwsssss! If I could marry them, I would.

img_9629
the highlight of my Christmas – notice this photo is larger than the other photos posted. because i just love it

With all the craziness, there were lots of moments to be shared with friends:

B-Shizzle’s engagement!!!

img_9631
celebrating that shiney thang on her finger that you can’t see in this photo

A new life ❤

img_9616
Hi baby N. i like the way you rollllll

The happiness that is in old college friendships

img_9638
Aly’s smile is infectious, guys

And then amiss all the craziness, God shines through because He’s just God – always there watching, caring, and loving His people. i was having a crummy december day early in the month, feeling burnt out, tired, and just wanting the christmas season to be over. begrudgingly dragged myself to bible study fellowship (bsf) for the last class of december. not particularly excited. and behold, when i got there, my discussion leader prepared these little gifts for us!

img_9620
the most beautiful gift this year

this year, i was put in a discussion group of older women, women my mother’s age. and i wondered why God put me there esp with the age gap making it a little harder to connect. but after that night, i saw how much my leader cared for me and felt so taken care of. it was something i hadn’t felt in a long time. and it was so refreshing and encouraging and needed. i see it as God loving me through her. so if nothing else this year , i see God providing unexpected people to care for me when i needed it most.

this is only part 1 of the festivities, friends. lots more to come in the next two weeks!

it’s thanksgiving time!!

旅 thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of all time. here’s what’s been up this november season:

img_9524

met this great girl named Alethia (stan stan’s gf!)

img_9338

met this cat. who gets to eat steak.  he belongs to my friend Carina. i think i’d like to be her cat.

img_9518

watched fantastic beasts & where to find them  with choey, jessL, and esther. thoroughly enjoyed the movie + the reclining seats we sat in to watch the movie.

then saw moana with the fam + JW. i liked it much more than i thought i would. i think that might be my favvvv song from MO-AAA-NNN-AA.

img_9387

  more rams + a wierdo. 

img_9572

got in the christmas spirit at universal studios!

got to celebrate Roxy’s bday at Build-A-Bear and my lil sis’s bday with a breakfast brunch! 

img_9488-animation  wedding time! celebrated Garrett & Jenn’s marriage!  re: relationships- i was kind of   toward JW for being on his phone a lot that night while there were other human beings around to talk to. and recently had been  about how much his obsession with football. and he’s been  at my “i want something” whine-y baby voice. i’m slowly coming to the realization that i am pretty critical toward JW. around all my friends, i wouldn’t really care about that stuff. but with JW, man, my expectation are out of control!  i guess it shows how much i need God.

and finally, thanksgiving with the Fungs. This year’s main event was, not the turkey, but the ten pound lobster that Uncle Daniel caught! It was insane. I know, you kinda wish you were there to eat it too.

Now, we are gearing up for Christmas and the New Year. Lots going on. Many great days to be had. Photos and recap to come.

oct happenings

things have been pretty low-key recently…but always opportunities to be thankful for the season of life im currently in:

img_9117

that’s the awesome small group. so thankful for their faithfulness and steadfastness. we are memorizing psalm 139 together which as been REALLY good. +also new members joining too, PTL!

img_9191

that’s JessL’s bday! we spent a day at universals celebrating + she found hagrid. he really was THAT tall. Who loses keys at a theme park?! apparently, me… 😦 I unknowingly lost my car keys in the theme park!!! but SO thankful someone found them and turned them in.   more to say God’s eyes are watching over me and my keen ability to lose important things.

img_9172

that’s JWalnut somewhere in there. it was fun watching JWalnut’s last dragon boat race of the year.

img_9221

that’s my mini-me. we had some late night Taco Bell eats after friday night fellowship. isn’t she the cutest thing?

img_9299

one of my absolute favorite non-home breakfast foods: taiwanese breakfast! fresh soy milk, joook, and carbs!carbs!carbs! had to do some recon work on a sunday morning for work and ended up treating myself and the fam to some ah-mazinggg food.  thanks God for providing small things in life to enjoy.

img_9287

bunch and car testing with this beaut (is that short for beauty?) its pretty clear we’re unashamed piggies.

img_9202

that’s an attractive man. haha. JWalnut went to Chicago (and Wisconsin). Normally, i’d like to insert a pic of the classic Bean pic here. But, this guy was so stoked about visiting Wisconsin and the Green Bay Packers, I thought this photo was more fitting.

img_9208

that’s my favorite school! while JWalnut was away, I was able to visit campus and help review some resumes for students at a networking event. and got to pick up some USC onsies for lil lady wu. PTL here – I street parked and accidentally left my car windows wide open (like straight up all the way down) for three hours while I was on campus (did i mention…) at USC. and my car was not broken into, vandalized, or stolen. Thankful for God’s protection and watching over my dumb mistakes.

img_9238

and that’s operation christmas child happening during our young adult fellowshipping. ❤ it.

img_9290

back in grad school, one of the places i interned at was OCTA (transportation authority for orange county).  there, i met the best co-working interns ever. every now and then we try to get together. like a couple weeks ago, we got together and shared some BOGO ramen. sadly, we forgot to take a group photo, but we got a photo of one of the groupies doin his thaaaang.

img_9263

also, big news in the fung family household. lil stan stan (left) aka youngest brother of the sabstering, officially started dating an ahhh-mazing woman (…that i have yet to meet)!  so excited God brought these two lovebirds  together. when stan stan finally reads this blog, he’ll prob be SO embarrassed i highlighted his life. haha but hey,  that’s what big sisters are for.

the studio of universes (aug 6)

nine years ago, this video came out:

do you remember that glorious song? ron, ron, ron WEASLY. singing our song. all day long. at HOGGGGWARTS! it’s okay if you don’t remember. means you were probably being productive in life.

some of the old college-mates wanted to check out HARRYPOTTERWORLD at universal studios, hollywood a couple weekends ago. so we became season pass holders to the glorious place that is the studio of universes, Universal Studios Hollywood.

trying to figure out which pass to buy? us too. here’s a simple comparison as of Aug 2016.Universal chart

some snapshots of the day:

our first ride – the Walking Dead maze. i saw nothing inside bc my eyes were closed the whole time

IMG_8018

IMG_8027

…i’ll be back…

a few of my favorite things (06.24)

On Friday night, Choey, JessL, Ewang + I went to a Sound of Music sing-a-long  at the Hollywood Bowl.  I didn’t know, but friends, this was a sold-out ordeal. Max capacity of the Hollywood Bowl = 17,500 attendees.  Number of attendees at the Sound of Music sing-a-long = 17,500. Who would have thought so many would  come for a sing-a-long?

IMG_7446

But first, before, we got there, traffic was a butt. #fridaynightlatraffic #noparking  #takepublictransportation   FYI- the Hollywood Bowl runs shuttles and park-and-rides from various Los Angeles County destinations straight to the Bowl for a nominal fee (less than $10 roundtrip if you pre-purchase them). Otherwise you will be battling 10,000 other cars to pay $18+ for stacked parking.

The movie starts at 8:00 PM. And it’s a showing of the movie with song lyrics during the musical numbers.  At 6:30 PM, however, you can attend the pre-show where you can see hundreds of little kids parade on stage one-by-one dressed up in a Sound of Music costume they created.  Actually, everyone had the opportunity to dress up! We saw lots of nuns. I kept thinking they were real nuns.

For these summer events hosted through the Hollywood Bowl, you can bring food and drinks (alcoholic and non) to enjoy during the event. JessL brought yummie Trader Joe wraps with snacks from her recent trip to Austria to share with us. We are so loved by her!

“Edelweiss” complete with cellphone lighting

I was a bit skeptical at first, wasn’t too sure if I would enjoy myself. I mean, technically, I just paid money to watch a movie that everyone has on DVD (or VHS if you old school like that). But, once the movie began, and all 17,500 of us started singing “…the hills are aliveeeee, with the sound of muuuusic…ladedada…“, you knew you were gonna have a great time.  The audience played along the entire movie – laughing as Maria won over the children, hissing at the Nazis, and cheering for Maria and Captain Georg.  It was def a once in a life time experience.
